SAN SALVADOR, July 1, 2008.- USA got its first triumph in Pool A by defeating Dominican Republic by score of 25-15, 25-20, 25-20 at the U-21 NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship.

Both teams have now identical win-loss record at 1-1, while Canada tops the pool with 0-2 and Puerto Rico is winless in two outings.

“We prepared to play Dominican Republic because we watched them playing very well against Puerto Rico. We tried to stop Pedro Garcia who looked very well in the first day,” said Shawn Patchell, the American coach.

The best scorer for the winners was Kyle Caldwell with 22 points and Murphy Troy added 19.

The only Dominican placer in double figures was Garcia with 20 and he leads the competition with a total of 51.
